Direct reduction in rotary kiln: Titanium concentrate + non-coking coal yields ilmenite (FeTiO₃) at 1200-1400°C.
 
Purification process:
 
Four-step method: Ilmenite → high-titanium slag → titanium tetrachloride → sponge titanium → molten titanium ingot.
 
Key reaction: TiCl₄ + 2Mg → Ti + 2MgCl₂ (displacement reaction).
